What use is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?  If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? James 2:14-16

I attended a luncheon yesterday put on by Dress For Success Orlando.  They showed this video on the impact that their work of clothing women has had since their inception in 1997.  The organization is now international and has touched millions of women in their twenty-year existence.  It was started by three nuns and a business woman in a school to help women have appropriate attire for an interview.  The stories of the featured women in this video and the ones who spoke yesterday reflect how performing the works of mercy changes lives.

Each of us has literally hundreds of opportunities in our lifetime to witness through works.  Choices that are simple and relatively easy to do for me could be life changing for someone who is struggling to keep body and soul together.  It just takes conscious thought.  I am forever amazed by the simple actions that can touch someone’s life forever.  Dress for Success says a thirty-dollar donation in their hands can outfit a woman for a job interview.  They not only give clothing, shoes and accessories but confidence and self-esteem.  They give the time to review a resume, offer career advice and shape the future for someone who does not think she has one.

I attended this luncheon to receive an award for my community service but the women who are changing lives by their works are the ones who deserve recognition!  Faith in action changes lives.  Doing the work that God sets before us will make a difference in this world.  If I choose to be like the girl who stood on the beach pitching starfish back into the ocean, one life at a time is all God asks of me.  What works can I perform TODAY?

Lord Jesus, You performed the ultimate work of dying on the cross.  You ask so little of me to be your hands and feet… help me to never be afraid to act!

If you wish to donate you can text DFSGO to 855 735 2437 or visit and give online.
