Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.  If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.  1 Peter 4:10-11

I was humbled to tears when I read these words this morning.  Service is my goal always but I know how often I fall short.  Peter challenged me today to really ask myself if I am really using all my gifts to serve others or is there too much self in my day to day… Using whatever gifts that I have been given s a tall order.  I do long for opportunities to give but I know I miss many when I am tired, hurting or feeling stressed.  My spirit is willing but my flesh is weak.

God is my strength and even when I think I cannot, He knows that I can!  He never gives me more than I can carry.  While I was lying in bed this morning allowing my mind and my body to come together for the day, a memory of a woman who literally saved my life came to me.  Jan and I met after a divorce support meeting, the first and only time either of us attended.  We went and shared a cup of coffee and got to know one another.   She invited me to go to church with her on Sunday morning.  On Saturday, I received notification that my divorce was final.  I got drunk that night and took a bottle of pills, Jan arrived at my apartment at 7 AM and found the door unlocked and me on the couch unresponsive.  She called the paramedics and stayed with me.  She brought me home from the hospital to stay with her while I got my head and heart right.

Jan was a true Good Samaritan.  She was my best friend.  God placed us together and she used her gifts.  She spoke God’s words of encouragement to me.  I have asked myself often, why my life was spared.  I ask God what He wants me to do and try daily to serve those who He brings into my life.  To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.  AMEN!

Lord help me always to use my gifts for Your glory and to be ever vigilant and willing to serve those you place in my life.  Help me to speak Your words to heal and support, help me serve others in Your name.
