Monday February 6, 2017 Perseverance

Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, because “the Lord is compassionate and merciful.”  James 5:11

Today around the world there are people in awe of the come behind victory of Tom Brady and the Patriots in the biggest game of football.  There are probably many who quit watching after the half time show when the score was so lopsided that there seemed no hope for even a good game much less a New England win.  But Coach Belichick did not let the team check out and these results have made history, biggest comeback in Super Bowl History.  To persevere in such a public venue when you are down by twenty-five points is truly the stuff of legend.

There have been many great instances of perseverance like Thomas Edison who found thousands of ways NOT to make a light bulb.  Or Dyson who made over five thousand vacuums before he created the right one.  What spurs on people to stick with it against seemingly insurmountable odds?  How can anyone keep going when the road is so very tough and all supporters have left you?  As George Michael would say, “You gotta have FAITH!”

Only faith and passion allows a person, a team, a company or a country to overcome the odds and win when everything seems to be against them.  The beauty of living today in this world of instant communication is that we get to witness first-hand these amazing feats.  You can Google info and have inspiring story after inspiring story pop up before your eyes if you need proof that faith works.  But it really comes down to our own ability to believe.  No one can achieve their own come from behind victory without faith and the confidence to keep pushing through.  If we can conceive it, and believe it, it can become a reality with faith.

Lord, I am grateful for the witnesses You have placed before me so that when the going gets rough for me, I will still be able to persevereHelp me to see my purpose and persevere toward the everlasting goal of heaven.
