If you remove from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech; if you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted; then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday.  Isaiah 58:10

Isaiah never minced any words.  He painted great word pictures that those who heard him could clearly understand.  The light only shines IF God’s people could do good deeds and not count the cost.  He was very clear about the problems that plagued his time and ours.  Oppression, lies, hunger, all still make our world very dark indeed just as they did in Isaiah’s day.  Scary to think mankind has not been able to solve any of these issues.  The truth of that should inspire us even more emphatically to depend on God to provide the light and the cure for the issues that we cannot erase alone.

Light solves a world of issues and changes even the most dire situation to something much more manageable.  When I can see, even the worst neighborhood is not nearly so frightening.  My guard may still need to be up, but when  I can see, I am again hopeful for the outcome to be positive.

Lord You were the light hung on the cross to illuminate the whole world.  Thank You for making our dark and scary world a better place.  Help me to be a light bearer and scatter the good news that there is light enough for all… IF… each person will accept the torch and be changed!  Change me Lord!
