Happy New Year 2017 Blessed

“The Lord bless you, and keep you;  The Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

Today the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary.  Blessed among women.  It is important to realize that because she said YES the whole world was blessed forever.  This blessing from Numbers, the Lord gave to Moses to bestow graces on the Israelites continues to be said centuries after it was first given.  Mary knew and uttered this prayer and certainly was greeted by her own Mother and Father, family members and friends.  Little did they know that she was the person who would bring the Lord’s face into existence.

Many today ask if Catholics give too much honor to Mary.  I don’t think it is possible to give TOO much honor to God’s Mother for she blessed us all and continues to do so.  I seek her counsel and intercession for myself and for my own daughters who are also mothers.  I beg for intercession for those who are sick and know that she will go to her Son as she did at Cana when the wine ran out for she wanted to save the hosts from any concern.  Mary gives all a model for patience and hope for those who have lost loved ones for she experienced their pain both in loss of a spouse and a child.  God knew Mary would be the perfect choice to bear His Son and granted her Immaculate Conception, so she never experienced sin.  How blessed am I to have two role models in both Mary and Jesus to live my life.

Mary contained Jesus divinity in her maternity and retains part of His DNA forever.  It is another reason why holding her in the very highest esteem is not only expected but necessary.  Because Jesus said on Calvary “Behold, your Mother!” all mankind has been given the benefit of her love.  Joy knowing that I can talk to her as I did my own mom makes me blessed indeed.

Lord I am so very grateful for the gift of Your Blessed Mother.  Thank You for her presence on earth and in heaven.
