Sunday November 6, 2016 Encouraged

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through His grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word.  2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

No matter how low I go, there is hope and encouragement in Scripture.  Today when I opened my prayer books, it seemed like every other passage had the word “Encouragement” in the verse.  God knows that this life is full of people who are stumbling blocks to His grace.  Jesus told each of His disciples that they would face persecution but to be encouraged for He would be with them in every trial.  I have an important duty to be encouraged because I will meet others who need to be inspired by my fervor.  Being lukewarm does not move anyone to take action.

It is so easy to see a situation as hopeless and to fall into discouragement.  That is clearly a tool of the enemy, as the devil likes nothing more than having folks despair.  By being an agent for change and encouragement, I can be a powerful force for good and the kingdom of God is strengthened.  Mother Theresa experienced darkness but she put on the light for her sisters, those she served and the world.  She realized her duty to be an encourager and the devil would not win in her personal battles.

Dearest Father, help me to be encouraged even when sadness and depression are closing in and to be always a person who encourages others.  It is better to step up and be in the LIGHT than to wallow in the darkness.  Help me always to seek YOU and share You, the light that dispels all darkness.
