Tuesday June 14, 2016 Flag Day Can You?

“Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke?
“Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

“Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will speedily spring forth;  And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.  Isaiah 58:6-8

Oh say Can You see?  His righteousness needs to go before us and light the way.  It is fitting that even though our flag flies at half-staff today, it continues to fly.  Our country is mourning yet again the loss of life but the tragedy forces the question, Can YOU see?

There is much to do in our country to right the wrongs of oppression.  We appear to the world as fat and happy, oblivious of their problems.  Yes I know our country is charitable and the outpouring of donations and food, manpower and help when a hurricane hits, or a tornado flattens is always remarkable.  Most of our citizens respond generously to help a neighbor.  I think the issue is then, we need to see a bigger view of who is our neighbor.

In order to feel peace now when an attack happened on our soil, many are reaching out in an assorted number of ways.   Let us lift up those who mourn and pray for those who persecute us.  Let us dialog to better understand how we can break the yoke of oppression.  God can heal all wounds.

Lord help me to be eager to satisfy the afflicted, clothe the naked and assist the homeless so that in every way I am a peacemaker.  I want to see the right way to live and move and have my being in You!
